What is self-paced online training?
Self-paced online training uses recorded videos and online exercises to guide you through the same curriculum as our live communication skills training courses. Learn at a pace and schedule that works for you, wherever you are in the world.
As you work through the videos and online exercises you’ll learn the same techniques and approaches that we cover at our live courses. We show you how to ask a friend or colleague to join you—either in person or by video call—to complete the exercises and practise the techniques. This provides a flexible way to learn communication skills whenever you want. All you need is internet access and a computer, tablet or smartphone.
Self-paced online training starts with the four core techniques that we cover in our live courses, and then moves on to additional techniques and applied topics that we don’t have time to cover in person. This means that once you’ve mastered the basics you can move on to advanced topics that we simply don’t have time to cover at our live courses.
To get a feel for how self-paced online training works, you can preview some of the videos before you enrol. We also offer a 30-day money back guarantee, which means that if the course doesn’t meet your expectations, you can get a full refund. All you need to do is contact us within 30 days of enrolling. No questions asked!
When you enrol in the course you get lifetime access to the materials plus complimentary access to new content that we add to the course in the future.
Benefits of self-paced online training
Self-paced online training is the most flexible and accessible type of communication skills training that we offer. You can access it wherever you want, instantly, which means that for many people it’s the fastest way to achieve effective workplace communication. It’s also accessible to people anywhere in the world, whatever your location or time zone. If you’re looking for the most flexible and immediate option, we recommend self-paced online training.
The benefits of self-paced online training include:
- no scheduling or waiting, just start learning
- access from anywhere
- learning at a speed that works for you
- working with a partner to practise the techniques
- extra techniques that we don’t have time to cover live
- our lowest cost training option
Let’s discuss each of these benefits in turn.
No scheduling or waiting, just start learning
While learning communication skills in a group setting can be fantastic, the coordination required to make it happen is considerable. That means that in practice, if you want to join a live training course you will need to wait for one of our scheduled dates. Live training also requires you to block out times in your calendar for the training sessions, which isn’t always practical.
By contrast, self-paced online training is available immediately. You can literally sign up right now and begin your course. (We offer a 30-day money back guarantee so if it doesn’t meet your expectations you can get a full refund.) If you’ve decided you’d like to work on your communication skills—or there’s an event coming up that you want to prepare for—why wait? Just enrol and start learning.
Access from anywhere
Another benefit of self-paced online training is that you can access it from just about anywhere. All you need to make progress is half an hour and a device with internet access. This means you can fit the training around your existing commitments. It also makes the training accessible to people in any time zone, in any part of the world.
Learn at a speed that works for you
If you’d prefer to learn on your own schedule instead of following a plan that we’ve devised, self-paced online learning is the best choice. For example, there might be a particular area that you need to focus on first. Maybe you have an important presentation coming up, or you need to have a difficult conversation with a colleague. You can go straight to the module that you need to focus on, and then return to the others when you have more time. It’s also easy to go back and revise topics, because you have lifetime access to the videos.
Self-paced learning allows you to spend longer overall, because there is no end-point when the course finishes. It also allows you to start slowly, picking up the essentials first and then coming back whenever you’re ready to delve deeper.
Work with a partner to practise the techniques
When it comes to learning the core techniques like active listening, you need to work with a partner to try out the approaches and understand how they work. We make this easy by showing you how to ask a colleague, friend or family member to spend 15 minutes with you to practise the techniques. You can either do this in person or by video call, and the activities are fun as well as being useful learning experiences.
In this way you get the benefit of the pair work we use in our live training with the added flexibility of the self-paced format.
Extra techniques that we don’t have time to cover live
Self-paced online training allows us to offer techniques that we don’t have time to cover in our live training. This includes:
- an introduction to coaching techniques including practical applications for everyday workplace communication
- tips for preparing for job interviews and practising the questions you’re likely to be asked
- how to understand what your stakeholders want and secure their buy-in for your ideas
These are topics that we’d love to cover in our London intensive and live online training courses but don’t, because there isn’t enough time. Self-paced online training solves this problem because there’s no limit to the amount of content we can publish. You can benefit from this, particularly if you’re able to dedicate time to working through each of the exercises.
You’ll also benefit from the content we add to the course in the future, because your lifetime access includes content that we haven’t published yet.
Our lowest cost training option
Self-paced online training is our lowest cost communication skills training option, because there’s no live trainer. When you consider that there are more topics available in this format and you have as long as you need to access it, it represents excellent value.
If you’re not sure whether it will work for you, why not enrol today and see for yourself? You can always ask for a refund within the first 30 days if it doesn’t work out.
Who is self-paced online training suitable for?
Self-paced online training is suitable for any professional who wants to become more effective in the workplace by developing their communication skills. It’s designed for any level of experience, whether you’re an experienced communicator or are just starting out. If you:
